Historic North Turn

By Ema ~ I have met up with a new friend for dinner at the historic North Turn where the original Daytona NASCAR racing took place. The beaches are very tightly packed sand, which is why even today we are able to drive on them. This was the north turn of the loop where the original racing happened between 1948 and 1958.

They cars were so tiny, they almost seem unreal, but these are replicas of the original cars that raced here.

They also had motorbike racing.

For dinner we sat on the balcony and watched the sunset. I had some grilled mahi-mahi and a virgin pina-colada. The view was beautiful. Can you imagine at one time there were cars racing by here. I am always glad to find history as I travel, but I must say it is probably much better for the environment that this no longer takes place here. Now there is a giant speedway in Daytona across the bridge from this island of Daytona Shores. I am sure many of you know of the famous NASCAR complex.

It was dark when we left, but I took a few more pictures with the tiny cars on the way out. I have a dear one in Europe that I think would be thrilled to be here, so this is my way of sharing what I found this sojourn. You know who you are!
