I drove through the night from the Spring Hill area and arrived to the sun rising over the Everglades.
I made a quick stop through to the welcome center before getting back on the road to The Keys.
It was exciting to be driving off the edge of the continent. I was a little nervous about the bridges ahead, yet the drive had been so beautiful thus far I was looking forward to what more the journey would unfold as the day progressed.
Once I got to Key West I met up with my Photographer friend, The Mermaid Whisperer, and we back tracked a few island to Bahia Honda State Park to check out the beach. I was quite tired from the long drive and lack of a nights sleep so after a wander down the shore we sat and watched the waves roll in while we had a snack. I ate a banana while I awed at the colors of the water, colored like I have dreamed oceans to be.
We had dinner at a cool beach shack on the water and I had my first taste of coconut encrusted mahi-mahi. It was heavenly.
I was happy to be here, but also call it an early night and dream sweet dreams of the mermaid life. Tomorrow we will go and create mermaid art!
P.S. The drive over the bridges was so beautiful all my fears melted away. I am grateful I pushed through any hesitation and made my way here!
