Road trip across America… daily reflections by Ema and Elle.
Day 22 . By Ema ~ We left our friend Jacob’s home in Midland, Utah today. His dear mom gifted a book to Elle of Anne of Green Gables, and the sweetest letter about how we now hold a place in her heart. She gave it to her wrapped in blue tissue paper and a ribbon and told her not to open it til we had parted. They were such kind hosts. I do look forward to crossing paths again sooner than later. On our way out of town we stopped at a place to take some photos that our mother would have loved. She loves old cars.
We are on our way to Nevada and crossed Arizona for a moment. This was Elle’s first time returning to her birth state since she was a year old. She had to collect rocks when we stopped to get our photo at the state crossing sign. It was beautiful, the red rocks of Arizona. We drove through a mountain pass just before sunset and the layers of color glowed in the late sun.
It was sunset when we arrived to the border of New Mexico and dark when we arrived at my childhood pen-pal Sunny’s home. She set us up to bunk with Victoria, her daughter, who is about Elle’s age, and the puppy. Sunny and I sat up and talked for awhile, but not too long, as with all the little ones in the house morning shall come soon.
By Elle ~ Today I woke up and watched some YouTube because Sissy was still sleeping. I let her sleep, but soon she awoke to Jacob coming in and saying bye. We got up, ate, and I took a bath. We packed up and got ready to go. We said our goodbyes and headed off with my new Anne of Green Gables book from Lorraine. We drove for hours and went to AZ were I got rocks and found an old journal. We headed off to Sunny’s were we stayed in Victoria’s room and I soon went to sleep.
